Super starch is one of the culprits. Carbs in wheat can send your blood sugar soaring. One researcher found two slices of whole wheat bread can raise your blood sugar more than two tablespoons of table sugar.

It can also be super-addictive. Gliadin, a protein found in wheat stimulates your appetite. The addiction can lead to cravings and binge eating.

Binging on wheat bread can also make you super lazy. Swinging spikes in your blood sugar can drastically lower your energy level. Some doctors believe wheat contributes to bad sleeping patterns and moods swings.

Cardiologist Dr. William Davis, author of Wheat Belly says because of the appetite-revving protein Gliadin, wheat eaters typically consume an extra 400 calories a day, which is the equivalent of 42 pounds a year. If you're worried you might have an allergy to wheat, check with your local physician about getting tested.
