MIAMI – An additional mosquito has tested positive for Zika in a small area of Miami Beach where people have become infected with the virus, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said Tuesday.
Officials earlier found Zika in six other mosquito samples in the area.

The department said it has tested more than 5,000 mosquito samples for Zika since May, with the seven in Miami Beach the only tests that have come back positive.
The announcement came as the overall number of Zika cases in Florida neared 1,000. The state Department of Health on Tuesday reported 12 new cases, with six "travel related" and six locally transmitted in Miami-Dade County.
Travel-related cases involve people being infected elsewhere and bringing the virus into Florida.
In all, Florida has totaled 980 cases of Zika, which is particularly dangerous to pregnant women because it can cause birth defects. That total includes 103 infections involving pregnant women, including four of the cases reported Tuesday.
