Crystal Ball Shows Many Complaints For Miss Cleo
Local Man Wants Bills To Stop Flooding His Mail
JACKSONVILLE -- Several people have called Channel 4 to complain about problems they are also having with Miss Cleo, a popular, Florida based psychic who advertises on TV.
William Brown (pictured, left) of Yulee said that he's not sure why he keeps receiving collection notices for $375. He said that the phone number doesn't even belong to him and there isn't a name on the bill, but the letters keep coming to his home address.
Brown said that he's never called Miss Cleo before and he's frustrated because he can't get the company to stop sending the notices.
"It's irritating getting these letters all the time and demanding your spiritual journey. I take my spirituality very seriously and for them to tell me it's going to be jeopardized unless I pay this junk, something needs to be done with them," Brown said.
Eyewitness News contacted an attorney representing Miss Cleo and he said that he'd resolve the complaint immediately.
A recent Channel 4 investigation uncovered almost 1,400 complaints against Access Resource Services, the company that operates Miss Cleo. The Better Business Bureau said that many of the complaints are similar to Brown's and involve alleged improper billing. Others accuse the company of charging customers for free minutes.
The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office is suing the company and Florida has settled with it for similar allegations.
If you'd like to file a complaint against the company, you can call the attorney general's office at 1-850-487-1963. Make sure you dial the 850 area code or you'll end up calling the psychic hotline. They have purchased a similar number.
