Old Lanier Bridge Begins To Come Down
POSTED: 9:57 a.m. EDT April 28, 2003
BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A piece of history is missing.
The lift span of the old Sidney Lanier Bridge was removed over the last few days, leaving a gaping hole in the 46-year-old bridge.
The 295-foot center span now sits on the banks of the Brunswick River, ready to be dismantled and sold for scrap metal.
As traffic zips across the new suspension bridge next to the older structure, the old bridge will come down over the next two years.
