Romney slipping in the polls
GOP hopeful coming up with new plan to beat Santorum
Rick Santorum is surging and Mitt Romney is slipping in the polls.
It's a new development in the GOP nomination race that has Romney's campaign amping up their efforts to win votes.
"I'm the only one who spent the majority of his career in the private sector," Romney said.
At a time when the public is fed up with Washington, Romney is trying to paint himself as an outsider.
Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are former members of Congress. Ron Paul is serving his 12th term in the House. So Romney dangled his DC-less resume at a campaign stop in Ohio on Monday.
"I believe you appreciate having spent my life in the private sector, then going off and running an Olympic games, and helping run a state," Romney said. "I have had the experience of leading."
Romney is also going after the man he has to slow down, Santorum.
"Senator Santorum goes to Washington and calls himself a budget hawk," Romney proclaimed. "Then after he's been there a while, he says he's no longer a budget hawk. Well I am a budget hawk. I don't want to spend more money than we take in."
Romney is trailing Santorum by 10 points in the latest national gallup poll. Many are waiting to see if his anti-Washington talk can cut into that lead.
Meantime, President Obama is making a sweep through Florida this week. He is scheduled to attend events in both Miami and Orlando Thursday.
He will discuss his plans for the economy at the University of Miami. Then he will appear at campaign fund raisers in Orlando that evening.
Once we learn more about the President's visit, we will post the details to News4Jax as well as broadcast them on the air.
