JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Channel 4's camera was not allowed in the Church's Chicken on Merrill Road. The manager was quick to ask us to turn off our camera and leave, but he allowed me to stay alone.
Off camera I asked Mr. Khan about the live roach found on the chemical dry storage shelf and the can of household roach spray in the same location. Both of these are high priority violations.
Manager Mr. Khan said they've never had a major problem with roaches because they have a pest control company that comes twice a month.
The manager actually showed me a pest control receipt. The exterminator was scheduled to come the day after the inspection. There's also a corporate inspection for Church's Chicken that happens next week as well.
Khan said the corporate office schedules it's own inspection every three months. It's to help them stay on top of problems in the kitchen even before a state inspector comes.
Looking back on past inspections at the Church's Chicken on Merrill road its last inspection was July 2013. It passed with only one high priority violation when an inspector found flies in the kitchen. There have never been any documented problems with roaches according to the inspection history.
