Roaches and no running water shut down three restaurants

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – In this week's restaurant report card roaches shut down two local restaurants and another was shut down because workers couldn't wash dishes.

The Guangdong Chinese Restaurant on US Highway 90 in Lake City was shut down for three days because of roaches.  It was first inspected on the 3rd after a complaint.  The inspector found nearly 20 roaches around sauces and near rice in the buffet line and a few on plates as well. The inspector came back the next day and found more roaches, so they kept it closed.  This time he wrote they were on the sushi make table and in several other others.  The inspector gave them an extra day to exterminate and came back two days later and opened Guangdong after being assured all the roaches were gone.

Pelican Pub in St Augustine off of A1A in Saint Augustine was also shut down for three days because they didn't have facilities to wash dishes.  Pelican Pub was under construction and according to the inspector didn't apply for the proper license to do that construction.  The inspector did come back two days later and they still didn't have the proper equipment to wash, rinse and sanitize dishes and utensils.  He gave them another day and this time they were in compliance and allowed to open with zero high priority violations.

Sushi House on San Jose Boulevard was closed on the August 5th. The bugs were near food in the kitchen, under the cook-line, behind the rice cooker and inside the fry oil box container.   The inspector came back the next day and there were still live bugs in the kitchen.  On the third day managers proved the roach problem was under control and Sushi House was able to open with zero high priority violations.
