Roaches temporarily shut down a Ponte Vedre Restaurant and a Mexican Restaurant on the Southside

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – A high end members-only restaurant is closed down for the night because of roaches. Also, a Mexican restaurant made the list for the same reason.

The general public can't eat dinner  unless you're a member or a member's guest at the Lodge at Ponte Vedra Beach Restaurant is a private.  But even they couldn't eat there last week when it was shut down because of roaches. On July 31st, an inspector found more than 20 live roaches in the kitchen. They were on the floor, under equipment, near the cook-line,  on sticky traps, and on the wall under the sink.  There were several dead on sticky traps as well, which shows they had some type of pest control.  The next day the inspector came back and there were no roaches.  I tried to talk with management at The Lodge and they told me they had no comment.

Los Loros Mexican Restaurant was closed for the second time this year because of roaches.   Less than two months after it was allowed to open back up it was shut down again. This time there were around a half dozen roaches in the  kitchen.  One in the cooler,  behind the dishwasher, on the wall, and the inspector also found one in flowers in the dining room.

Los Loros was allowed to open up the next morning after proving to the inspector the roaches were under control.  The inspector checked and there were no high priority violations and the restaurant met inspection standards.  We talked with the owner about the closure.  He said they had just remodeled the kitchen and that's why the bugs were out. He also said he was grateful the inspector found the bugs.
