San Jose deli still closed and Chinese restaurant allowed to reopen after inspector found roaches

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – In this week's Restaurant Report Card we went back to check out Larry's Giant Subs on San Jose Boulevard.  The state shut them down for about a week because roaches.
I did some research and the licensing department allowed Larry's to open back up last Wednesday when they were satisfied

that the roaches were gone for good.  I wanted to talk with the owner about the closure.   When I got there I found another sign saying it was still closed.  It's not from the state but instead someone connected to the restaurant.  So we'll be keeping an eye on this Larry's Giant Subs to see what's going.

Uptown Pizza and Wings on Lane Avenue grabbed my attention with 20 violations.  Five of them the state deemed high priority.  They had to throw out  veggies, meat, fish and cheese because the prep unit fridge was down. The inspector wrote, the cook told him as soon as the check started that the unit was broken.  The inspector also wrote it was a repeat violation. Uptown Pizza and Wings is due for a recheck within three months.

German Schnitzel Haus on Atlantic Boulevard was also cited last week with 15 violations and five of them the state wrote could make you sick.  They had to throw out brown sauce because it had a  mold like growth on top according to the report.  They also had to dump meat because it was too warm to be considered safe.  The inspector came back the very next day and German Schnitzel Haus was perfectly cleaned. The inspector wrote there were no violations period.

We went to Hot Wok in Orange Park on Lock Rane Boulevard.  It was shut down for the night because of roaches.  We talked with a manager about the bugs and he said they have one of the cleanest kitchens in the city.  The inspector came back the next day and opened the restaurant back up.
