1 arrested in Bingo Palace robbery

PALATKA, Fla. – Police in Palatka have arrested one of two men they said robbed a Bingo Palace Monday morning.

Police said that on Wednesday, they identified 24-year-old Bernard Ash as one of the suspects, then found and arrested him.

Ash was charged with armed robbery, grand theft, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of firearm by convicted felon, as well as an outstanding warrant for sale of cocaine. He was booked into the Putnam County jail without bail.

Officers were called to the robbery on St. Johns Avenue about 10 a.m.

Police said that as employees were opening Monday morning, two men approached them from inside the building, both armed with handguns and dressed in black clothing.

One was wearing what appeared to be women's stockings on his face with eye holes and a mouth hole cut out, police said. They said the second was wearing what appeared to be a black ski mask.

Both robbers were described as black men, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, one thin and the other medium build.

Police said they demanded money from the cashier, then forcefully took the money and fled on foot onto Second Street.

Two people in the Bingo Palace received minor injuries during the robbery during the hands on confrontation initiated by the robbers, police said.

Police said they're in the process of trying to identify the second robber.
