1 dead, 1 critical after I-95 crash
Lanes reopened Friday at 3 a.m.
Interstate 95 northbound at University Boulevard reopened early Friday morning, hours after a crash killed a driver and sent his passenger to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred Thursday at 10:40 p.m. near the Bowden Road exit. Lanes reopened Friday at 3 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord and Toyota Carolla were both heading north when the Honda pulled into the Toyota's lane. Troopers said the second driver tried to take evasive action, but struck the left rear of the Honda, which veered off the road onto the grass and rolled onto its side before striking a tree.
The driver of the Honda, Vladimir Ramos, 41 was pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Lisbet Alderete, 39, was transported to UF Health at Jacksonville with critical injuries.
The driver of the Toyota -- 23-year-old Sarah Sutton -- was not injured.
The FHP report says charges are pending further investigation.
