One man is dead after a police-involved shooting early Tuesday morning in Lake City.
The Lake City Police Department received a 911 call of disturbance around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
As officers approached the door at a Windsong Apartment Complex apartment, Jeramey Sweeny, 30, came outside of the apartment with a handgun and pointed it at the officers, according to police.
Officers Brian Bruenger then drew his weapon and fired at Sweeny, killing him at the scene.
Both the state attorney's office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.
Bruenger, Officer Garrett Register and Sgt. Larry Shallar were all placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in these cases.
Bruenger is a five-year veteran of the Lake City Police Department, Register has been department for a year and a half, and Shallar is a veteran of 11 and a half years.
