Troopers said a Ford Sport Trac was traveling west on S.R. 100 when the driver, 40-year-old Josue Mata-Vega, of Daytona Beach, lost control of the vehicle, left the road and rolled over several times.

A second westbound vehicle attempted to stop suddenly, but struck the Ford, swerved to the right, then struck a 30-year-old passenger that had been ejected from the SUV.

That victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to UF Health in Gainesville, where he died.

Mata-Vega along with three other passengers in the Ford were also taken to UF Health in Gainesville with injuries. The driver of the second car was not injured.

According to the FHP report, while Mata-Vega and the front-seat passenger were wearing seat belts, none of the three back-seat passengers were.

The FHP said charges are pending the outcome of alcohol testing.

Lanes were closed in the area as troopers investigated the crash.
