2 hospitalized in crash with pickup, dump trucks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were hospitalized and gallons of diesel fuel were spilled in a crash between a pickup truck and a dump truck Tuesday morning on the Westside.

The crash at about 10 a.m. closed Commonwealth Avenue at Bulls Bay Highway.

The driver of the pickup and a passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the dump truck was OK.

It's unclear how much fuel was spilled. Police said they were concerned about it getting on the roadway, into ditches and in the water supply.

Linda Fowler, who lives at a home in front of where the accident happened, said she heard the crash.

"I heard a big crash and then all of a sudden tires screeching," Fowler said.

She said accidents are not uncommon at the intersection.

"Very often. We need a four-way flashing light out here," Fowler said.
