1 in custody after early morning stabbing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is dead and a woman is in custody after a stabbing early Saturday morning on Jacksonville's Westside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to a report of a cutting the 2600 block of Jammes Road. Officers found a man in his mid- to late-40s unresponsive. He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Upon further investigation, police say there was an argument over what appeared to be a cigarette, and has taken a woman in her mid-40s into custody.

No names were released at the scene.

It wasn't immediately known why the altercation escalated into a stabbing, but Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the woman did live at the residence.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
