Extra crews called to fight house fire in Palatka

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -

One person died and one person was critically injured in a house fire in Palatka.

Putnam County Fire Rescue were called to the 200 block of Highlawn Avenue about 4 a.m. Thursday.

Officials on the scene confirmed one person was found dead in the house and one person was flown to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville with critical injuries.

Authorities told Channel 4 the mother of the dead victim had been notified, but that the victim was not a child.

The fire was so intense that firefighters from Interlachen came to help battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but a state fire marshal investigator said he does not believe it to be suspicious.
