1 shot in home-invasion robbery; neighbors on edge
Police looking for suspects after several people broke into Arlington home
A violent home-invasion robbery has many homeowners in Arlington on edge.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says at least one person was shot after a number of people tried breaking into the home about 10 p.m. on Syringa Lane, just off Merrill Road.
They also believe the victim fired a round that may have hit one of the suspects.
When Channel 4 returned to the neighborhood Saturday, the first thing a man standing outside of his home said was "don't shoot me."
Another man we spoke to has lived in the neighborhood nearly 30 years. While it's not the first time something like this has happened, he said the quality of life has drastically gone down over the years.
"I don't like it. We used to be a retired community, here, kind of like. Now, I don't know."
Channel 4 also spoke to a man named Cain who said he moved to the neighborhood last weekend and was home at the time of the shooting.
"I just hope they don't come over here. That's pretty much all I can say. It's happening all over here, all over the city, so."
"Young folks, just think before you pull that gun out. Just think, before you put it in your pocket, before you walk out of the house with it, before you load it, think about it. It could be the end of your life," Cain said.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
