1 stabbed, 1 in custody after standoff in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – A woman was flown to UF Health Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon with stab wounds after being stabbed by her boyfriend at Fairway Villas Lane in Atlantic Beach, according to police.

When police arrived about 3 p.m., Justyn Courson (pictured below), 24, was barricaded in a home at that location. He was taken into custody after a two-hour standoff. Police eventually used a Taser on Courson, who was injured and also taken to the hospital. Police said he cut his throat.

There is no word on his condition.

During the standoff, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and beach police departments were called to the scene and area residents were advised to stay in their homes.

"What do I think? I think it's horrible," said neighbor Francoise Goffrin. "The situation is very bad. I'm very sad because I suppose it's a young woman."

Police said there was an argument between Courson and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Stevie Fiscus, when Fiscus went to retrieve some belongings. Police said the couple had recently broken up.

Police said Courson stabbed Fiscus more than 20 times with a kitchen knife before she was able to get away. She went to the home of a neighbor, who called 911. Officials reported Fiscus is in stable condition.

That's when Courson cut his throat and barricaded himself, police said. He was eventually captured.

Courson is charged with aggravated domestic battery. He was previously arrested in 2012 on a charge of domestic battery.
