A 10-acre brush fire got within 25 feet of some fences of a subdivision on the Westside on Wednesday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.
The flames scorched a fence and burned a shed in the 300 block of Purcell Drive, JFRD spokesman Tom Francis said.
No homes were damaged thanks to the efforts of about 60 firefighters.
The fire was was wind-whipped, and because of the proximity to the homes on Purcell Drive, they toned out a second alarm from firefighters.
There were some visibility issues with smoke blowing over Interstate 10.
