12 students hurt in school bus crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Twelve students from Oakleaf Junior High School were hurt in a school bus crash in Argyle Forest on Friday morning, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.

The crash involving the bus and a car happened at Argyle Forest Boulevard and Cheswick Oak Avenue just before 10 a.m.

Six children were taken to UF Health Jacksonville, and five went to Baptist Medical Center, all with non-life-threatening injuries. It's unclear which hospital the 12th went to.

The school is about five miles away from the crash scene.

The scene was cleared about 10:35 a.m.

"I just didn't like seeing all those people on stretchers, because one of my friends was on a stretcher, and I didn't like seeing that," said student Kayla McNair. "A lot of people were screaming, and I was just sitting there."

"When she calls and tells me she was in an accident, it kind of -- you know, as a parent you think the worst," said Kayla's mother, Stephanie McNair. "So you just want to make sure they're OK and make sure all their fingers and toes are still there."

It's unclear what caused the crash.
