Man Accused Of Keeping Son Locked In Room

POSTED: Wednesday, October 11, 2006

According to police, a man who kept his 9-year-old son in a prison-like room has been taken into custody.

Randall Piercy, 41, was arrested on Wednesday evening, accused of keeping his son locked in his Jacksonville home.

Authorities said video cameras were mounted in virtually every room of the house, including the room where the child was kept.

The police report stated that a deadbolt-type lock was installed on the outside of the child's room, and was accessible from the hallway.

The police report also stated family members told authorities Piercy only allowed the child to go to the bathroom once a day and was told to "hold it," until the allotted time. It stated the boy's mother was only allowed to see the child when Piercy allowed the visit.

The child had never gone to school, and was supposed to be home schooled; however, according to detectives, the child could not read.

"It appears the Piercy home was a prison. The child has never attended school, has no friends, and had not received medical attention," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Annie Smith.

Channel 4 talked to Piercy as police walked him to jail.

"This is totally unfair. I'm a very, very, very loving father," Piercy said.
