JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two people died Saturday afternoon when their pickup truck was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer and caught fire on Interstate 95.
Investigators say 65-year-old Vincent Modica and 62-year-old Judy Modica were driving south on Interstate 95 when they came upon some congestion near Dunn Avenue.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the couple slowed down, but a tractor-trailer behind them driven by Michael Wright, 48, did not.
Investigators said Wright's semi rear-ended the pickup, sending the Modicas' vehicle crashing into another big rig, and the pickup truck and the tractor-trailer it hit caught on fire.
Wright had only minor injuries and the driver of the big rig that caught fire was not hurt.
Troopers said that charges are pending and the investigation continues.
