JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two Jacksonville postal workers were recently arrested and charged with taking and cashing a money order that was supposed to be sent to a Jacksonville woman.
Police said the men arrested, Deferrio Callahan and Carlos Garland, worked at a postal sorting warehouse in Northwest Jacksonville.
Tiffany Harrell told Channel 4 she has spent months fighting the post office about a money order that she never received.
"The money order never made it here. It was stolen from the post office," Harrell said.
She said the money order was included in a package for her 4-year-old son's birthday from the boy's father. However, the only thing that showed up was a toy mask -- no money order.
"I was like, 'There's a toy in here, but no money order.' Once we got talking to the people in the post office, they were like, 'There's nothing we can do,'" Harrell said.
Harrell's fight with the post office ended when police arrested Callahan and Garland for allegedly swiping the missing money order.
Investigators said the two postal employees, stole the money order worth $592.
According to police reports, "The postal money order was inside a parcel with other items and when the parcel was opened and items rearranged and the postal money order was missing."
Investigators said the two men met in a parking lot of the postal facility to divvy up the stolen money.
Although the theft took place about six months ago, Harrell said she still hasn't received her money.
"In a way, you can count it as a loss because it's been this long. There's no way telling when you're going to get it," Harrell said.
She said she would think twice the next time she needs something shipped.
"Next time I'm using Western Union. No money orders," Harrell said.
Both Callahan and Garland face organized fraud charges.
