Girl Critically Injured In 4-Car Crash

POSTED: Tuesday, December 26, 2006

A 4-year-old girl remained in critical condition Tuesday, two days after a chain-reaction crash on Atlantic Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Anthony Frankin, 46, failed to stop in time for cars stopped at a red light at Atlantic Boulevard and Withrow Drive about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Franklin's Ford Mustang rear-ended Marguerite Schneid's Volvo, which struck Robert Whelan's Monte Carlo, which hit Latoya Johnson's Honda.

All five people in Schneid's car were hospitalized. Her daughter, Stefanie Schneid, 4, suffered the worst injury.

Troopers are still investigating and are awaiting the result of a blood test on Franklin before filing any charges.

The wreck shut down the eastbound lanes of Atlantic for several hours.
