18-Year-Old Dies In Police Shooting

POSTED: Saturday, January 20, 2007

An 18-year-old was shot and killed by a narcotics officer at a Spring Park apartment complex on Saturday night.

Police said that around 7:30 p.m. in the Sabal Palm Apartments on Emerson Street, the teen pulled a gun on the officer, who retrieved his weapon and fired several shots.

The teenager, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.

A woman claiming to be the dead man's mother told Channel 4's Melanie Lawson that her son had a job and was not involved in drugs.

Dozens of detectives and deputies secured the scene, gathered evidence and talked to witnesses. Vehicular traffic was not allow in or out of the complex for the rest of the evening.
