POSTED: Thursday, January 25, 2007
WASHINGTON -- The Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Thursday to approve the nomination of federal prosecutor Lisa Godbey Wood as a U.S District Court judge for the Southern District of Georgia.
Her nomination now goes to the full Senate, where Wood is expected to win confirmation easily.
Wood was nominated by the White House in June to replace Judge Dudley H. Bowen Jr., who is retiring.
A resident of St. Simons Island, Wood earned undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Georgia.
She was a law clerk for District Court Judge Anthony Alaimo of Brunswick before joining the Brunswick law firm of Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford and Martin, where she became a litigating partner.
She also was a magistrate judge in Glynn County before becoming U.S. attorney for Southern Georgia in 2004.
