PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- A 23-year-old driver's crash into two power poles and a traffic control box on state Road A1A at 4 a.m. Monday caused traffic delays through the morning rush hour, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Caleb Moffat, of Ponte Vedra Beach, was driving south near the intersection with Atrium Drive at 4 a.m. when he lost control of the 1997 Lincoln. According to the accident report, the car left the road, then spun around and struck the poles and a box that controls several traffic signals in the area.
Moffat, who was ejected from the car, was flown by air ambulance to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Troopers said their investigation was continuing and charges were pending blood-alcohol test performed on Moffat.
Traffic was directed manually in the area for several hours until repairs to the traffic-control equipment were completed.
