JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A father arrested one week ago after his 3-month-old daughter was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries has been charged with murder now that the girl has died.
David Vesey, 36, is charged in the death of Alexis Kayla King, who was rushed to Wolfson Children's Hospital on Feb. 13.
Doctors, who suspected the baby's injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome, called police. Detectives questioned both parents and search the family's apartment on Plantation Bay Drive, just off Collins Road on the Westside.
The arrest report indicated that Vesey, who is in the Navy, was alone with the baby while his wife ran errands. He called her to say the baby wasn't breathing, and the parents drive the girl to the hospital.
After the preliminary investigation, Vesey was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. Vesey initially denied any wrongdoing, but then admitted he shook the baby because she was crying.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the child died of her injuries on Friday. On Sunday, Vesey was charged with murder.
