Man Accused Of Abusing Wife For Over 7 Hours

Deputies: Woman Tortured, Beaten By Husband

POSTED: Monday, February 26, 2007

A Clay County woman was recently held captive in her home, tortured and beaten for more than seven hours at the hands of her husband, deputies said.

According to detectives, 31-year-old Alex Machare threw his wife through walls, cut her with a knife and took pictures of her and e-mailed them to her friends.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office learned about the incident when they were called to Orange Park Medical Center, where an officer was able to talk with the victim and her parents.

The officer was told that the abuse began when the victim arrived home and her husband accused her of having an affair, and then proceeded to beat her over the course of seven and a half hours.

The victim and her family told the authorities that Machare dragged his wife around the home, throwing her through walls on several occasions, and would not allow her to leave.

The officer reported that there was a 14-inch by 12-inch hole where the victim's body went through the drywall, and a smaller hole where her head went through.

According the arrest report, Machare used a kitchen knife to cut his wife and made her undress and send nude photos to her friends via e-mail.

The report also stated the couple's children, ages 1 and 3, witnessed the assault.

The victim was able to call her parents to the home after Machare left scene with his brother and sister, the report said.

The victim was transported to OPMC by her parents. Authorities reported seeing numerous bruises on the victim's face and body, and cuts to her body. Authorities were also notified that the victim had a laceration to her spleen.

Police said Machare was taken into custody at another home after jumping out of a second-story window in an attempt to elude officers.

He was booked into the Clay County Jail, charged with aggravated battery and false imprisonment. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
