JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A mysterious advertisement that has been appearing on local TV and radio stations, including here on Channel 4, has raised some questions.
WJXT has received dozens of concerned calls during the past couple of days regarding a commercial that can best be described as Beware The 26.
The commercial simply states, "beware the 26."
Channel 4's Scott Johnson did some digging to get to the bottom of the curious ad and determine what it and why people should beware.
He started the investigation here at Channel 4, where he discovered Beware The 26 is simply a commercial that was sold by the sales department.
"Evidently, the buzz has been big around the market. Their job was to cut through clutter of advertising and they've done that," said Channel 4's general sales manager Wayne Reid.
The commercial does cut through the clutter of the advertising world and stand out. However, surprisingly, the sales manager said he did not know what the ad meant.
"Don't know what it is at this point, but assured by the agency that once it comes out people will not have to worry," Reid said.
The agency that represents the advertiser would not say who's behind the commercial.
All the agency would release is the following statement: "It's part of a multi-media, nontraditional promotional effort, designed to intrigue the residents of northeast Florida. Stay tuned. The 26 will be revealed next week."
Johnson suggested that viewers keep in mind that the next time they tune in to see John Gaughan or Dr. Phil and Beware The 26 pops up -- it's just a commercial that will make more sense in days to come.
