11-year-old boy struck by car, seriously hurt

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – An 11-year-old boy has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Saturday evening, according to St. Johns County deputies.

Investigators said the crash happened near the intersection of A1A South and Weff Road just before 8:00 p.m.

Deputies said the boy was running across A1A with relatives, when he hesitated and was struck by a vehicle traveling north. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Julio Torres Jr. of Palm Coast. Investigators haven't said if he's facing any charges.

The boy was taken to Flagler Hospital and then to UF Health Jacksonville. His injuries are said to be life-threatening.
