Prosecution: DNA Links Defendant To Killing

Defense: Defendant Had Sex With Woman, Didn't Kill Her

POSTED: Thursday, May 24, 2007

Prosecutors on Thursday continued to make their case against Paul Durousseau, who is on trial in the slaying of 24-year-old Tyresa Mack.

Durousseau, now 36, is accused of raping and murdering the mother of three in her Eastside apartment in 1999. He also faces separate charges of killing five other women in Jacksonville and one in Columbus, Ga.

Durousseau was arrested in February 2003. By September of that year, he was indicted on six separate counts of first-degree murder.

Prosecutors said they have forensic evidence that proves Durousseau killed Mack.

Police evidence technician Michael Laforte, who processed the crime scene, went through the evidence photos he took. Laforte testified that none of Durousseau's fingerprints were found inside the victim's apartment.

Defense attorneys contend Durousseau had sex with Mack, but he did not kill her.

"The evidence will show that the sexual intercourse did not occur at the time that they were killed," public defender Ann Finnell said in her opening statement on Wednesday.
