UPDATED: 12:30 pm EDT June 4, 2007

Police on Monday identified the teenager found shot to death in a northwest Jacksonville park last week.

Three days after the fatal shooting, police identified the victim as 19-year-old Maurice Donte Powell.

According to police, Powell was from Washington, D.C., and did not have a local address.

Police said that on Friday afternoon someone shot the teen while he was at Grunthal Park near Edward Waters College.

Neighbors said the victim was shot in the head and that a lot of teens were in the park at the time of the fatal shooting.

"I heard the shots, that's it. When I got out, everybody was gone and the guy was laying in the park with a hole in his head," said Carlton Williams, who was nearby when the shooting happened.

Anyone with information that could help police solve the case is urged to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
