Boy Stable After Being Run Over By 12-Year-Old

Father Asked Girl To Back Car Out Of Driveway

POSTED: Monday, April 8, 2002

Noah Patrick Green sustained two broken legs and facial burns Sunday when he was run over by a car being moved in his driveway by a family friend.

Officials said Noah's father, David Meredith, asked a 12-year old girl who was visiting the family to back a car out of the driveway. Neither the girl, whom family said they call "Poo," or Meredith saw Noah.

But Noah saw the car coming toward him.

"He said 'stop Poo, don't back up, don't back up, stop, get out of the car,'" Noah's grandmother, Rose Green, said.

According to police, when the girl realized that Noah was behind the car, she panicked and hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes. They said she rolled over him, then dragged him across the street.

"I saw this car that was backed up in a strange place in my yard. It was between a mailbox and a shrubbery," neighbor Mary Sue Mickler said.

Noah is in stable condition at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center. Officials it's miraculous he did not suffer any serious head injury.

"I'm telling you, I'm just so glad he's not going to die," Green said.

Most neighbors didn't know what was happening until after it happened -- but they say the details as they stand now are worrisome.

"I think it was poor judgment," neighbor Ellexzena Wilder said.

Noah Green's grandmother said he was conscious and wanted to talk and see all the family members who were gathered at Shands Sunday night.
