JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Detectives were called to the scene a fatal shooting on the Southside on Thursday afternoon, when an apparent drive-by shooting left one man dead and sent another person to an area hospital.
Police said shots were fired from a car passing the 10000 block of Kusaie Drive South about 2 p.m.
Derek Lowman died at the scene, and James Crumitie was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound.
"We don't have any witnesses at this moment, but we're still investigating," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dan Janson. "We are looking for a white Crown Vic, an older police-style vehicle, however it doesn't have police wheels -- just a plain white Crown Vic."
Police said Lowman and Crumitie were sitting in a car when the shooting happened. They haven't said what the two victims were doing inside the car at the time of the shooting.
"We're talking to persons in the neighborhood to see if they saw anything," Janson said.
Some neighbors said they think they saw the car for which police are searching.
"Before the incident, I did see a white car on the corner, but I don't know if that's the same car or not. I looked out window and saw it sitting there and then went inside to take a shower and when I came back out, everything going on with the cops and everything," one neighbor said.
Neighbors told Channel 4 differing stories about the amount of crime in their Southside neighborhood. Some said crime is frequent, and others disagreed.
"So far it's been a pretty good neighborhood. I've been here about a year and three months. So, this is the first thing I've seen that has happened. I'm not to proud about it," said one resident. "Hopefully it's just an isolated incident."
Detectives said they were trying to determine if this was a random shooting or if the gunman targeted a specific person.
Police continue to be on the lookout for the Crown Victoria involved in the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting of the location of the Crown Victoria in question is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
