Bomb Squad Detonates Garage Sale Grenades
POSTED: Friday, November 16, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Preparations for a weekend garage sale were interrupted Friday afternoon by the discovery of at least five hand grenades.
Police were called to a house at the 900 block of Palermo Road on the Southside. Finding what appeared to be live grenades, the homeowners and nearby neighbors were asked to leave their homes.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office bomb squad determined the grenades were too unstable to risk moving and detonated them.
No one was hurt and after about two hours, everyone was allowed to return home and plans for the garage sale resumed.
Channel 4 was told that the grenades were apparently brought home many years ago by a retired veteran.
