Musicians Play Again Despite Dispute With Symphony

Musicians in Jacksonville have been keeping the music alive despite being locked out by the symphony.

The musicians picked up their instruments Sunday afternoon for a concert at Riverside Presbyterian Church.

It was their first performance since contract negotiations broke down almost two weeks ago.

The musicians said it felt good to play again.

"The benefit today is really … to get the music back out in the city of Jacksonville because we haven't been able to play for two weeks. So, that's our thought first of all -- get great music out so people can hear it and maybe relax," said double bass player Kevin Casseday.

The musicians plan to play at another concert Dec. 5.

Negotiations are scheduled to continue talks with symphony managers until both sides agree on full-time pension and part-time musician salaries.
