JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Old police cars, ambulances and furniture are just a sample of all the deals had at Tuesday's city auction.
Shoppers looking for a steal found a variety of surplus items courtesy of the city of Jacksonville.
More than 300 people packed into the auction in hopes of snagging a good deal. Among them was 19-year-old Ross, who said she was in the market to buy her first car.
"I was looking to buy a car today. I want a Crown Victoria. I'm looking to spend at least $1,000 or maybe $1,500," Ross told Channel 4.
Bidding on a budget was a challenge for this anxious teen, but Ross said even though she wasn't able to get her first choice of vehicle, she had her eye on another ride.
"I'm thinking about going over to the other lot. Then, I think my chances will be a lot better," Ross said hopefully.
Shoppers not in the market for a car had the chance to get a head start at burning off that holiday weight because the had fitness equipment available.
Beyond the garage and past the gym room, was everything needed for a fully stocked office.
"Office desks, chairs, file cabinets, a little bit of everything," said Weeks Auction Sales Manager Bill Catsulis.
Jim Boyle, of the city of Jacksonville, said the money raised at the auction would go to the city to help offset future purchases.
"The total sales usually average out between $500,000-$600,000 and that goes back into the city's general fund, which helps offset future equipment," Boyle said.
Anyone who missed the Tuesday auction will have a second chance at bargains because the city expects to have another auction in the spring.
