POSTED: Wednesday, December 19, 2007
A Palm Coast resident shot and killed an intruder in his home on Tuesday evening, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said a a man in his early 20s entered the home through an unlocked front door door on Pheasant Drive just before 7 p.m.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement joined deputies in processing the shooting scene.
Sean Christopher Adams, 22, told deputies that he saw the intruder, grabbed a handgun and fired. The man ran toward the front of the home, turned and returned fire on Adams. Deputies said the homeowner then fired one more shot.
As the intruder -- identified as Rashawn Pugh -- attempted to flee, he collapsed and died just outside the front door of the home.
"We are working to establish what, if any relationship, there may be between the resident and the intruder," Sheriff Donald W. Fleming said. "We are not treating this as a random act. We don't believe the intruder chose the residence at random."
Detectives are investigating whether anyone else was involved in this incident.
