JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A middle school teacher has found herself in a sticky situation for what the school district claims happened in a Jacksonville classroom.
The Duval County School Board investigated Kirby Smith Middle School math teacher Kasey Goodin, who is accused of putting duct tape on a student's leg, hands and mouth.
The investigation report says, "The student did not cease talking as directed by Ms. Goodin," and that was the reason for the use of duct tape. Tape was placed "around his legs to the legs of his desk. And his hands were taped to his head and tape was placed over his mouth. He was left in that condition for approximately 20 minutes," according to the report.
"Obviously, the school board is concerned with the conduct of this teacher and are looking into proper disciplinary action to take with this teacher," said Jill Johnson, of the Duval County School District.
Parents at Kirby Smith told Channel 4 they were shocked to hear about the taping incident.
"I've never heard of that. For somebody to do that, that's pretty terrible. I wouldn't want them to do that to my child," said parent Kim Withers. "There's no reason to duct tape a child. If there's a problem, they call me and he calls me from the classroom. She doesn't need to be working at any school or around any children."
Goodin has been moved to a Northwest Jacksonville consolidated services center, which is a facility where the district puts teachers in Goodin's position to make sure they have no access to students.
The school board is expected to determine what type of punishment Goodin will receive during its next meeting in February.
