JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Beach mother logging on to check her daughter's MySpace page was shocked when she found some racy photos of kids from a local middle school.Jacksonville Beach police said the mother went straight to the authorities with the pictures of nude kids, kids in their underwear and in kids in swimsuits that she found on the Web page. Most of the kids in the photos attend Fletcher Middle School, according to police. Police said the pictures are illegal because they consider the online photos a distribution of child pornography.
"It's a horrible crime. It really is. There's really no excuse for child abuse on any level," said Sgt. Tom Bingham. "It's a very difficult crime to investigate. It's very emotionally draining for investigators to have to sit and look at that and deal with that all day."MySpace has terms that clearly state nudity and offensive subject matter in photos is prohibited, and that anyone who posts such photos could face legal action.Investigator told Channel 4 they have a suspect, but couldn't release any details.Officers said they hope to present the case to the state attorney and press charges. In the meantime, police suggest that parents talk to their kids and take an active role in their lives and know with whom their children are hanging out.Fletcher Middle School is expected to host an Internet safety-training course that will coincide with an FCAT seminar at the school from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24.
