JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Thursday handed out awards to some of the hardest working officers in the city.
Sheriff John Rutherford presented six awards to past employee of the month winners.
One detective in particular was honored for his tenacity in helping track down the accused killers of 6-year-old Dreshawna Davis, who was playing video games in her home when she was shot and killed in July 2006.
Three brothers are charged in her slaying.
Detective Jim Davis worked on Dreshawna's case. He received the honor of being named 2008 Officer of the Year.
The sheriff called Davis a bulldog. The detective said he has been that way since moving to homicide in 1997.
"I kind of had a reputation of not wanting give up on the cases. Sometimes it’s a good things and sometimes it's not so good -- when you just don’t want to say somebody's beat you on a case," Davis said.
The detective told Channel 4 he wouldn't have received the award if not for the help of his fellow detectives and supervisors.
