JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A shooting near a Northwest Jacksonville school left Jacksonville police searching for both victims and suspects.
Police began patrolling the area around George Washington Carver Elementary School in the 2800 block of West 45th Street at 3 p.m. after shots were fired about a block away.
Channel 4 was told that students were still in class at the time of the shooting, but the school was not placed on lockdown.
According to investigators, gunshots were fired at one car from another car. The cars from which the shots were fired sped off.
"The witnesses said the suspects are three to four guys in the car, and there were two people in the gray Buick," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. David Batrous.
The bullet-riddled Buick stopped next to the school after the car's tires and windows were shot out.
The intersection in front of the elementary school was blocked as police conducted their investigation.
The victims ran off near the school but never entered school grounds, authorities said.
Investigators said they're searching for everyone involved in the shooting.
