Roofer Wanted For Questioning In Burglary

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2008
UPDATED: 1:00 am EST February 13, 2008

A man claiming to be a roofing contractor has been named a person of interest in a burglary case after police said $50,000 worth of jewelry was taken from a Jacksonville woman's home.

Police said the victim told them the roofing contractor was at her home just a day before her place was ransacked and money, jewelry, diamonds and pearls were taken.

"Anything that was lying around and that appeared to have value was taken," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson.

He said the victim, a 73-year-old woman, was doing some yard work when the burglary took place.

"She left the garage door up with the interior doors being unlocked. Somebody went inside and ransacked the house and stole all types of things," Jefferson said.

The thief got away with cash, two diamond rings, four gold chains, a gold bracelet, diamond earrings, diamonds pendants, gold coins, a pearl necklace, pearl earrings and other valuables, according to the police report.

Police have named James Glawson as a person of interest in the burglary, saying they would like to speak with the man.

Police said a day before the burglary, Glawson came to the woman's home claiming to be a roofing contractor and that she needed her roof done.

"He left a proposal with her, but it just didn't sit right with her. In her mind something was wrong with the proposal. It had no license number on it and it didn't have all the necessary things that were supposed to be on there," Jefferson said.

Two years ago, Glawson was arrested and found guilty for a very similar crime. Police said they believe he might have done it again, and now they want to question him about the burglary.

"We've been able to obtain a warrant for his arrest with $100,000 bond, so now he's flying very low under the radar. He knows that this info is out," Jefferson said.

Anyone with information about Glawson's whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866845-TIPS.
