JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 60-year-old man spent Thursday night in the Duval County jail accused of bribery after a judge said he received a note from him with a $100 bill enclosed.

According to the arrest report, Warren Robinson arrived at a hearing on a domestic violence charge before Judge Charles Cofer and handed the judge's assistant an envelope containing the cash and a note that said: "Please accept this little token of gratitude and appreciation towards me. P.S. Take your wife out to dinner on me on Valentine's Day."

In the three-page letter, Robinson asking Cofer to dismiss the case. Instead, he was arrested and charged with bribery.

At Robinson's first-appearance hearing on the bribery charge Friday morning, Cofer asked the prosecutor: "How much favoritism did he reasonably feel he'd receive for only $100?"

After hearing chuckles in the courtroom, the judge added: "Was this more an inappropriate gesture than bribery?"

Robinson was released on his own recognizance on the condition he has no contact with the judge or his assistant. He was due to return to court for an arraignment on March 6.
