JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An executive assistant at Florida Junior College at Jacksonville is accused of embezzling $102,000 from the college in a scheme involving a college credit card.
Cheryl Chesser, an employee of the college for 13 years, had stolen the money over the past five years, according to police.
"This was a very, very sophisticated embezzlement scheme," FCCJ President Steven Wallace said.
Investigators said she forged signatures needed on various forms to pay for personal travel, auto rentals and other travel-related expenses that had nothing to do with her position at the college.
The investigation began when a fellow employee reported some discrepancies in travel expenses in November.
Chesser was booked on Friday on charges of grand theft.
Wallace said security procedures at the college will be enhanced and the money stolen will be covered by insurance, so no taxpayer money was lost.
