NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- A high school lacrosse player was rushed to an area hospital Wednesday night, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.
The 16-year-old student-athlete was playing in a game at Fletcher High School when he was injured.
According to witnesses, the lacrosse ball struck the Fletcher goalie in the chest, causing the player's heart to stop during the game.
Paramedics used a defibrillator to try to revive the player. Channel 4 was told the goalie was revived before a hospital helicopter landed to take him to the hospital.
Rescuers airlifted the player to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was in fair condition.
