JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two days after finding her body in a Northside house, police have identified the slaying victim as 31-year-old Tyronnie Dennis.
Dennis' body was discovered Tuesday in the 2400 block of Blackshire Road in the home of 50-year-old Calvin Simpson.
The mother of two had been missing since March 6 when her 13-year-old last saw her at her apartment in the Sable Palms complex, according to authorities.
A detective working the missing persons case went to Simpson's house just before noon Tuesday. When Simpson opened the door, the stench of a decaying body was overwhelming, police said.
Simpson questioned by detectives before being arrested on unrelated charges.
Those who knew Dennis said she was good mother and that they were shocked she had been killed.
"I can't believe it. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I just saw her Thursday morning and spoke with her. Then, I wake up the next morning and get the news that she's gone," said neighbor Audrina Manigault. "It's a shame that this happened -- how they found her. Now, we're worried about the kids."
Neighbor Sheria Bell told Channel 4 she thought Dennis and Simpson were dating.
"I think that they were together as a couple," Bell said.
Simpson is being held at the Duval County Jail. He is charged with two count of writing bad checks.
Police said their investigation into Dennis' death is ongoing.
