4-Year-Old Killed, Sister Burned In Daytona Fire

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Fire officials are investigating a Daytona Beach blaze that killed a 4-year-old girl and severely injured her sister.

Krystal Cain died at the scene late Sunday. Her twin, Kathryn Cain, is in critical condition after 50 percent of her body was burned. A neighbor rescued the girls' 5-year-old brother.

Chief Jim Bland of the Daytona Beach Fire Department says the fire broke out shortly after 11 p.m. in a second-floor apartment.

The children, whose parents are separated, were visiting their mother for the weekend. Their mother, her teenage daughter and the daughter's fiance escaped the blaze.

The fire marshal is investigating what started the fire.
