Jax Teens Charged In PVB Home Invasion

POSTED: Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Three Jacksonville teenagers were arrested early Wednesday as they ran from a home-invasion robbery of a Ponte Vedra Beach home, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

3 Teens Charged In Ponte Vedra Beach Home Invasion

Amer Begic, 19, Ali Sayed-Eid-Ahmed Hassan, 18, and Daniel Kantarevic, 17, were booked into the St. Johns County Jail. Kantarevic was then turned over to Juvenile Justice authorities.

Authorities said Sgt. Sam Williams was on routine patrol at 4:20 a.m. when he saw three men running across on state Road A1A near Thousand Oaks Boulevard. He said one of the men had a bulge in his waistline and was cupping it in his hand.

Williams made a U-turn and contacted two of the three men. He said he ordered them to the ground after he saw one of them had a handgun in the waistband.

The third fled on foot.

Shortly after the encounter, a couple in a condominium on Shoreline Circle -- almost across the street from where Williams captured the two men -- reported that two men with handguns kicked their door open. The men allegedly took the woman's purse and cell phone and ran.

The victims said they were shaken, but were not hurt.

Deputies said a third suspect was located a short time later at A1A North and Marlin Avenue. The woman’s purse was found in a nearby lake.

"It's not often that you get three guys that just robbed a business or pulled off a home-invasion robbery," said St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar.

In addition to the home-invasion robbery charges, detectives have charged Hassan with grand theft, petit theft and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Begic was also charged with possession of a concealed weapon, grand theft and petit theft. Kantarevic was also charged with petit theft.

Begic is the son of Omer Begic, who is serving a 30-year sentence for the murder of his wife.
